Dreams of Iron and Water
Iron and potassium salts are washed with water, leaving an imprint on the page. With cyanotype printing, the artist has direct contact with the photographic process. Kitchen table chemistry, baking soda, tea, hydrogen peroxide, and vinegar can tone, bleach, darken, and increase contrast.
It makes a harmonic companion to pinhole photography where the projection of light is unmediated by the sophisticated computations of electronic minds. Hands, razors, and brushes are solely responsible for the delicate incarnations stilled on the page.
